We hear that one a lot.

Usually it goes one of two ways.

Where This Started

Back in 2021, these kinds of conversations kicked off the ToughMesh journey.

A month later, beds were delivered — just in time for the Christmas onslaught.

Solving the Cold Problem

Last year, we released Pillow Tops for warmth.

Pretty much a soft launch.

We created a pillow top where the mat straps tightly to the base.

The first group?

Simple.

“Yay — finally.”

But…

There was another group.

“The dog still chews the edges.”

Same dog.

Same problem.

Innovation Time — Remove the Target

Hide the edges.

Give the dogs nothing to chew.

We modified the Pillow Tops with an edge that slides into the frame.

Just like our Mesh and Riplock mats.

Edge chewing problem…

Solved.

We sent these out as warranty replacements.

The offer was simple:

If this doesn’t work — your money back.

The Result

The good news…

This worked.

I assumed everyone would want this better version.

It is Chew-Proof after all.

So we quietly started replacing the original strapped version with the upgraded one.

If someone ordered a pillow top…

They got the improved version.

All good…

Until…

“Hey Kevin, in the picture the mats strap on.”

“Yeah… Ummm… we discovered some dogs were ripping the edges, so we upgraded them for you,” I said proudly.

“I wanted that version so I can remove it and clean it easily.”

And that’s when it landed.
