Where This All Started
A couple of years back, a client reached out.
Her adolescent male Amstaff (around 2 years old) had ripped up the mat on a bed he shared with an older female Amstaff.
Shared resources quickly became his domain.
He was marking territory.
We replaced the original under warranty.
The client, understandably concerned, upgraded the mat.
Three days later…
I’m on the phone to our local manufacturer.
“Mate… that 900… it lasted 3 days.”
“WOW.”
We were both quiet for a minute.
An upgraded replacement had never failed that fast before.
Both stunned.
“Do you want to fix it?” he asked.
“Absolutely.”
“It’s not going to be cheap.”
“Uh… how ‘not going to be cheap’ are we talking?”
Building Something Beyond “Tough”
That’s when we started exploring options.
Not just commercial-grade materials…

We looked at Kevlar.
Too expensive.

After a lot of back and forth, we landed on a material used in:

We couldn’t compromise strength.
So we went with smaller diameter…
Solid steel rods.
That solved it.
They fit into the frame tracks — tight, but solid.
(A bit of dishwashing liquid helps.)
The Result
Over three years later…
That original mat is still holding up.
