One day, back when ChewProof was still a hobby, I took a call from the owner of a Kennel. He wanted a mesh mat, one that provided great airflow to keep the dogs cool, that would drain fast and dry quickly.
Easy right?
Well, no…
That’s why there wasn’t an industrial one out there.
He wanted to make sure if a pup did a whoopsie on the bed when they arrived (claiming their new territory) … they’d be high and dry away from that mess.
Now, if you ever want to test a dog product… Go to where the dogs are… Lots of dogs are… you learn fast.
And our first attempts… well they didn’t last long.
And the feedback was harsh!!!
So we improved quickly.
Working our way through different materials and ways to secure the mats.
We hunted locally and internationally for materials, and eventually landed on what we call ToughMesh…
Why ToughMesh – Because it is.

Who’s ToughMesh Great for?
There are, of course limits…
It’s not for everyone.
And if you have a big dog that digs – a lot – then ToughMesh isn’t for you.
Small dogs that dig are generally good, but the big dogs… 😢 it’s the riplock for them.
Even when a Kennel is asking for ToughMesh we recommend getting some riplock mats for the “special ones”.

Q: How Breathable is the mesh?
A: If your pup runs hot, loves the outdoors and has a sense of adventure, this is a bed that drains well, and provides great airflow on a hot day.
Q: Is this bed OK in the weather?
A: All the materials in the bed are full weather materials. The mat is UV guaranteed for 15 years, and if the bed was a plant, the advice would be “Full sun/shade or rain… All weather”. It won’t rust and will last for years in all conditions.
Q: Will fur get caught in the mesh?
A: Great question, and astonishingly – NO. Being PVC coated woven thread your pup’s hair is less likely to come loose on this than the traditional woven fabrics.
Q: Will the mat stretch or sag over time?
A: Again – NO. It’s an industrial strength fabric, can carry much greater weight, literally hundreds of KG, and being a woven mesh, it will not sag.
