Tuesday morning, not even 6:00am, walking Jasper
AND… his harness failed.

During the 5:30am “Tour of the Hood” it’s not uncommon for chaos to reign, but on this day our usual level escalated…

When he was young, destroying beds was only one way he demonstrated his strong will.

He was also an absolute terror to walk.

So, we called a trainer out. She tried to walk him like a normal dog… and even she had to admit, he was special.

Eventually we settled on a compromise of an over the shoulder, through the legs harness — which worked miracles to stop the pulling.

And he’s been using it since.

Until…
.
.
Tuesday.

Jasper developed a signature manoeuvre.

He’d dip his head and back up in one clean motion…

I call it the “Dip and Slip”.

When he does it right, he’s able to ditch the harness and back out of it completely, before you (well… I) can react.

On Tuesday… All of a sudden…

One of the ‘over the shoulder’ straps flung off — broken in the motion.

The harness was busted.
And Jasper was free.

He gives me a cheeky grin, like he’s saying…
“Got ya.”

With the best makeshift job I could muster… we headed home.

All was good… until…

We got to a major intersection.

We waited for the lights.

A break in traffic.

“C’mon Jasper.”

Uuurrrggghhh!!! The Dip and Slip…

RIGHT in the middle of this major intersection, which was extremely busy… already.

I shouted, “JASPER – STOP!”

He backed away and was halfway across the perpendicular road…

Softening my voice, and as calm as possible, I approached him.

He sat… he looked up.

I cradled his head in my hand, and we walked to the footpath.

Out of danger.

Collar back on.

The tradie in his ute gave me a wry, knowing smile…
“Good luck, mate.”

We were back off… and got home safely.

Ya know…

Life gets easier with the right gear.

When you update your gear…

ChewProof.
